INNOVI is coordinating its first European project, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainability in the European wine sector.

Info Innovi,

The project "WatEnerWine - Water and Energy in the wine sector: transition towards a sustainable, efficient, and resilient industry," coordinated by INNOVI, aims to improve the efficiency of water and energy use in the European wine sector while promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

This initiative, representing a significant part of the wine ecosystems in France, with the participation of the Nouvelle Aquitaine wine cluster (INNO’VIN) and the Institut Français de la Vigne et du Vin (IFV); Italy, with the participation of the agro-food cluster of Emilia-Romagna (CLUST-ER) and VINIDEA; and Spain, with the participation of the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP), Eurecat, and the Catalan wine cluster (INNOVI), seeks to boost the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector.

Through collaboration between clusters, technology centers, business support organizations, and SMEs in the wine sector, the project will develop a strategy focused on improving support structures for the sector's sustainable transition. This includes creating Green Transition Centers to advise wineries on adopting new technologies that optimize resource use, such as water and energy.

The WatEnerWine project will also facilitate knowledge transfer within the industry through guides on best practices and innovation catalogs, while organizing events and outreach activities at the European level. These efforts aim to contribute to a more sustainable and competitive wine value chain in Europe.

At the end of June, the first meeting of the WatEnerWine project took place in Vilafranca del Penedès, at INNOVI’s headquarters. This initial meeting allowed the consortium to update on the various project perspectives, share goals, and define actions for moving forward. The meeting also identified different challenges and positions in the wine sector regarding efficient water and energy management. It became clear that the expertise of the companies involved in the project brings significant value and potential.
