Yesterday, November 28, the day "Circular bioeconomy and water-food-energy and ecosystems nexus" was held at the Àgora Center with great success. This event is part of the "SureNexus" project of the Prima Foundation, it aims to ensure a fair transition of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems NEXUS for adaptation to climate change and sustainable development through nature-based solutions and the bioeconomy.
Organized by IRTA, the UPC's UNESCO Chair in Sustainability, CREDA and the Institut Català del Suro Foundation, with the collaboration of INNOVI, the day highlighted practices and solutions to support a resilient future in the Catalan agriculture. Particular emphasis was placed on the wine sector, as well as on the cultivation of olive trees, fruit trees and horticulture in the region.
The focus of the event was on the quadruple NEXUS or NEXUS WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems), analyzing the potential of tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the circular economy (EC) and the bioeconomy, as well as nature-based solutions (NBS).
Joan Ruiz, Director of R+D+i at Cellers Unió, presented the CIRPOL project, highlighting its application in the replacement of antioxidant additives through the natural synthesis of polyphenols. Victor Tirado, innovation manager of INNOVI, shared knowledge about the ReUseLees, Circular Bioeconomy, Vi100, MCR Local and Vinyes 4Calor projects in his presentation "Analysis of circularity in the wine sector: what options are there?".
The day brought together prominent experts and professionals from the agricultural sector, encouraging collaboration and the search for innovative solutions to face the challenges of climate change and promote sustainability in Catalan agriculture.
