With the aim of dealing with the water crisis that has been affecting Catalonia for two years, the clusters INNOVI, Catalan Water Partnership, and the Associació Vitivinícola Catalana (AVC) have joined forces to launch the innovative "ViWaTec" project. The mission of this initiative is to promote innovative technologies and strategies aimed at minimizing water consumption within the Catalan wine sector.
With the increasing impact of climate change, the drought has intensified. "ViWaTec" was born as a response to this environmental emergency, providing tools and solutions to improve water management in wineries.
The project is based on several key pillars:
Personalized diagnostics: 8 state diagnostics and 3 technical and economic evaluations will be carried out in 11 representative wineries from different territories. Expert water companies will conduct individualized visits to provide a comprehensive analysis of water use in these wineries.
Guide to Good Practices: The results of these diagnoses will form the basis for the creation of a Guide to Good Practices for Water Saving in the wine sector. This guide will include recommendations, innovative technologies, and success stories aimed at minimizing water consumption.
Online Catalog of Technologies: To facilitate the practical implementation of the recommended technologies, an online catalog will be developed. This catalog will provide wineries with access to new technological proposals and suppliers to reduce their water footprint.
Territorialized Working Groups (GTTs): With the aim of disseminating the results and creating effective collaborations, GTTs will be formed for each of the 3 participating Denominations of Origin. These groups will be the central axis for debating sustainable solutions beyond the field of water.
"ViWaTec" represents a comprehensive initiative that seeks not only to address the water crisis but also to promote a green transition in the wine sector. Through the collaboration between the clusters and the active participation of the wineries, the project aims to improve the competitiveness of the sector and its ability to respond to environmental emergencies.
This project has been financed with the support of ACCIÓ.
